Pilgrim's Progress

3. Part II of Pilgrim’s Progress is important as it not only includes women, children and other men, thus broadening the understanding and scope of deliverance, but incorporates more of the everyday experience common to most people. In these ways, it supplements Part I and enhances the appeal, reach and impact of the work. Like other editions, this late-eighteenth-century edition printed at Nottingham advertises new cuts and illustrations, but also includes ‘The Life and Death of Mr. John Bunyan, Late Preacher of the Gospel in Bedford’ – an indication of Bunyan’s literary and religious stature, as well as the growing interest in biography early in the Romantic period. Such additions, among others, were to become standard.
